The sound of fear itself?

&bull posted by Matt Wharton @ 9:09 PM

Engineer Vic Tandy may have discovered the sound of fear. Whilst in a lab (that was rumoured to be haunted) designing medical equipment he felt uncomfortable and broke out in a cold sweat and thought he saw a gray ghostly shape out of the corner of his eye that disappeared when he turned to look at it. He left the lab terrified.

However upon returning to the lab the next day he noticed that a piece of foil was vibrating up and down, he tracked the source to a standing wave of sound thats intensity reached a peak in the center of the lab where he had been sitting the previous night. The sound produced by a newly installed fan was at a frequency of 19Hz a level below that of human hearing.

Upon further investigation of infrasound he discovered that it can affect people physically even though they cannot hear it. Another supposedly haunted building was discovered to have a standing wave of sound of 19HZ focused in the haunted room.

Spooky or merely science?
